In 1996 Gerbrand started combining his graphic design studio work with education in Digital Media Design and Motion Graphics at HKU University of the Arts Utrecht in the Netherlands. Since his move to New Zealand in 2007 he was involved as a senior lecturer in Typography at Massey University. In 2013 he joined the Colab team at AUT University, Auckland. Currently his design research domain is defined by Transmodular Design and Transmedia Narratives.
Creative frameworks are used to develop new circular experiences that synthesise sound and visual components into material form. In this aesthetically potent environment, the research engages with digital and physical ontology, sound visualisation, sampling methods, and generative design practice.
