A kaleidoscope of talent gathered from around the world and across New Zealand for the inaugural IncrediblEdge 2012.

Jillian de Beer at Gibbs Farm. Photo by Hilton Goring

New Zealand provided the setting. Located at the edge of the world and surrounded by sea, the country presents a lifestyle that is close to nature which inspires borderless thinking and dynamic creativity, and a living culture of artistic expression, innovation and experimentation. In New Zealand we say, “It is the sea that separates us, and the sea that connects us”.

As our world is rapidly changing and becoming more complex in unknown dimensions, it requires new ways of thinking, creativity, flexibility, understanding and collaboration – that extend across borders, environmental contexts, worldviews, aspirations, cultures, generations, multiple platforms and time.

IncrediblEdge cut through the opaque, multi-faceted inter-connectedness of the world to reveal new forms of potential and opportunities.

Richard Serra, Gibbs Farm. Photographer Hilton Goring. Photo by Jillian de Beer

Creative thinkers and pioneers of innovation and beneficial change joined together to share their passions, knowledge, wisdom, and insight – inspiring new thinking, new ideas, innovations and direction for the future. Participants shared personal and heartfelt stories of courage and potential. Speakers came from diverse perspectives – by presenting complex ideas in a simple way they challenged others to think and go beyond accepted norms.

As people talked about their quest for breakthrough innovations and positive change others were inspired – to make sustainable differences for individuals, communities, society and our planet.

All were touched by an enormous generosity of spirit, deep conversations, the sharing of ideas, and new friendships that will continue into the future. Many described their experience as ‘life changing’.

Can Yuksel, DreamWorks Animation, Los Angeles and Agnesa Secerkadic, United Nations, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
IncrediblEdge was an individual and collective experience of collaboration and co-creation. Heartfelt artistic gems of painted artworks came from children who painted in the Whakarewarewa forest in Rotorua on International Children’s Day. Our collaborations with international and New Zealand speakers and participants, weaver Dawn Matata, Kristin School K-Force Robotics team and Forenics@Kristin group, AIESEC New Zealand students, artist Gregor Kregar, Reanne Leuning (Austria), Bronwen Evans (Thailand), filmmaker Hilton Goring (USA), creatives Cheryl Browne, Carol Leung and Qiane Matata-Sipu, Q theatre, sponsors and Gibbs Farm ensured an incredible collaborative experience for all.

Thank you everyone who travelled so far to become part of a wonderful group of incredible people.

Amazing!

Planning is underway for another incredible gathering. Watch this space.

Wings are symbolic of protection, and birds in flight take aspirations to higher levels.

The calm and serenity depicted on the album cover of BOOK OF LOVE – Lullaby (1988), art directed by Nick Egan, is extraordinarily powerful.

It is inspiring how the magic around stars has guided the flight path of incredible people.

When the idea of an international gathering was germinated, we looked at the world and the rapid change that was occurring.

As the initiator of IncrediblEdge, I was increasingly inspired when I read of the vast and extensive creativity that emanated from Nick Egan.

It’s a special and unique honor that Nick will be central to our gathering in 2012. He is an inspiration for creative people the world over. His support and generosity has been overwhelming.

Nick is one of the world’s greatest art directors, whose creative genius has produced great works in visual design and video for music, including Oasis, Alanis Morisette, Mick Jagger, Sonic Youth, Duran Duran, Iggy Pop and INXS. He is currently working on a documentary about creativity expert Sir Ken Robinson, addressing the need for current, standardised education to undergo massive change to meet the reality of today’s world. This is ground-breaking work of global importance.

Nick’s world was creative from the beginning. He produced album cover designs for chart-topping recordings before graduating from Watford College of Art and Design. He was part of the punk rock revolution, which showed disdain for the establishment, and which fuelled eccentric work that influenced global culture. Nick directed for fashion entrepreneur Malcolm McLaren who managed the Sex Pistols and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, for whom he created the graphic design for the “World’s End” clothing line, and art directed fashion shows in London and Paris. In New York, he designed the label for the first collection, “Sketchbook”, by Marc Jacobs. He art directed Jacobs’ fashion shows and continued to collaborate with Jacobs through his meteoric rise in the fashion world.

It is near impossible to condense such a life of intense artistic creativity into a few short sentences.

On 5-6 March 2012, we will celebrate the abundance of talent that will come together, at the cutting edge.
